One Deep Breath - Simple Pleasures

.....................
..................Silky golden head
..........................resting on my arm just now
..............................Trixie home again

This week's prompt from One Deep Breath is Simple Pleasures. This one was the most immediate to me - the pleasure of a presence like Trixie, her companionship. Then there's coffee, there are figs and almonds. There is October sunshine and the sound of the sea. There's sitting with friends and planning birthday treats for friends. There is the prospect of puy lentil stew for dinner. There is the feeling of my hair after it's been blow-dried smooth. There is that cedarwood candle a friend gave me last week, and there is the song of a thrush outside.

One Deep Breath - Countryside

We haven't had our first frosts, and many trees have yet to begin displaying their Autumn glory, but I love the colours that are showing up on this rhus. Did I cheat, in that the photo was taken in a garden within a country park? Oh, well....

.............These are autumn’s gifts

.............gold, copper, amber, rubies

............before winter’s chill

One Deep Breath - Tanka

This week's suggestion from One Deep Breath is that we try our hand at Tanka - which is like Haiku, but gets an extra two lines, and conveys some emotion. I've been absent from my blog for a few days, away to my neice's wedding, and today, bringing my son to start his third year at college. So here's the immediate response:

We cross the country,
carrying your student gear,
I leave you safely there.
My journey home is quiet,
still feel your kiss on my cheek.

One Deep Breath - Solitude.

This week's prompt from One Deep Breath is apt, given that in the past two weeks, I've been spending a lot of time alone - cocooning. I am lucky in being comfortable in my own company (and strictly speaking, since Trixie is with me, I am seldom, indeed, truly alone). Normally, I share only one Haiku, but today, three have emerged, so forgive my indulgence in offering them all to you:

Now I am alone
no-one else drinks from my cup.
My tea has gone cold.

......This is my own space
......my rooms, my floors, my own walls,
......my own voice speaking

She sits here with my,
my silent shadow-sister.
Her hand touches mine.

One Deep Breath ..... Tea

The participants at One Deep Breath share a haiku, or two, or even three each week, on a given theme. This week's theme is Tea and Coffee. I've missed out on participating a few weeks (as with many other of these weekly challenges or prompts), but I've been able to read over most of them, and it strikes me again what a beautiful form haiku is. It does give us pause, to breathe. There's a sigh that comes with a haiku. A letting down of something. This isn't one of the groups that calls huge numbers to participate (yet), but it is quietly offering peace and tranquility in a lovely way. Thanks to Susan and Jennifer who organise the group.

Here's what came having visited two dear friends this evening, and shared tea with them.

Tea / Chai

sit at their table
for tea, with sweet tastes and talk.
Persian-scented air
